 Southside Community Land Trust can always use an extra hand. Whether your are an experienced gardener, an expert graphic designer, or you're just looking to get your hands dirty, check the listings below to see what sorts of projects are going on.  Individual volunteers and groups from schools, universities, community groups, and businesses are welcome.

Keep in mind, there are usually more opportunities during the busy growing season from March to October. Get in touch with the contacts provided for each project, and we'll do our best to fit your interests with our needs.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities:

EDUCATION VOLUNTEERS

  • Youth Garden Club Assistants: Help with after-school gardening activities at one of SCLT's school-based youth education programs. Lead lessons on gardening and environmental education for elementary school students. This is an ongoing volunteer commitment. Ideally, volunteers will be able to participate once or twice a week, from 3pm-6pm. Contact Tara at gardenclub@southsideclt.org for more information.
  • City Farm Field Trip Docents: Lead field trips to SCLT's City Farm for local students. This is an ongoing volunteer commitment. Field Trip Docents will undergo a 4-hour training session on field trip lessons and activities, and be asked to lead at least 4 field trips per year. Field Trip times and dates vary. Contact Leo at education@southsideclt.org
  • City Farm Celebration Assistants: Help with preparation, set-up, and clean-up for a one-day neighborhood event to celebrate the summer harvest with SCLT's Children's Garden. Over 300 neighborhood youth join SCLT at City Farm for fun, games, music, and food. This is a one-time volunteer commitment. We are looking for volunteers to contribute 2-6 hours in the end of August. Contact Chris at fiecoat@gmail.com or Leo at education@southsideclt.org for more information.

URBAN EDGE FARM VOLUNTEERS

  • Farm improvement assistants: Help to clear brush and debris from SCLT's 35 acre urban farm, repair fencing. This is a one-time volunteer commitment. We are looking for a group of 8-12 volunteers to contribute 2-4 hours sometime in the summer or fall. Contact Christina at sclt@southsideclt.org for more information.

ADMINISTRATIVE VOLUNTEERS

  • Graphic Design Assistant: Help design a sign for each of SCLT's Community Gardens. This is an ongoing volunteer opportunity for an experienced designer. Contact Liza at gardens@southsideclt.org for more information.
  • Web/Technical Assistant: Assist with SCLT's website and e-newsletter revisions and updates. This is an ongoing volunteer opportunity, experience with Drupal preferred. Contact Jessica at outreach@southsideclt.org for more information.
  • Data Entry Assistant: Help with data entry. This is an ongoing volunteer opportunity. Contact Susan at development@southsideclt.org for more information.
